A Message from the President about Time Trials

Dear Parents and Athletes-

Time Trials is Saturday, our springboard to the season! Planning is in place to hold our Annual Time Trials and this year is as important as ever. The PAC Board has met and we are seeing growth in our swimmers in every age group, diving growth and terrific response to the first few weeks of practice. I cannot stress enough the importance of attendance at Time Trials. From the standpoint of your swimmers and divers, there are several key points that make Time Trials critically important:

1. Know the kids: This is the opportunity for the coaches to see your kids swim-with names attached! We run the Time Trials like a meet with lane assignments, electronic timing, starter, Stroke and Turn...the whole nine yards. Our ultimate objective is for the coaches to get an unobscured look at your kids in EVERY stroke.

2. Meet experience: This will be new for many swimmers/divers and parents alike. Time Trials gives both groups a feel for how the meet runs, and all important volunteer duties!

3. Pre-Season Times: If the coaches don't have times on your swimmer, there can be a domino of frustration from swimmer to parent to coach that extends over the first few meets. Seeing your swimmer swim every stroke allows us to avoid putting your swimmer in events in which they are not yet legal, they struggle or just don't like.

As far as advice? Have a nice spaghetti dinner Friday night. Carbo load! And a little coaching tip...STREAMLINE!!!! The greatest impact that your swimmer can make on their times on Saturday is to concentrate on tight streamlines off their starts and turns. Especially off their start...hold your hands together, leave them UP over your head, head down, and KICK LIKE CRAZY!!! If they do it, you will be astounded at the difference you see in their performance.

I regret that I will not be in attendance at Time Trials, but the coaches are ready and the stage is set! Good luck to everyone and lets set our standards HIGH as we kickoff the 2008-09 season.

GO GATORS!!!

All swimmers and divers are encouraged and expected to attend Time Trials on Saturday, October 25th.
> Diving: 1:00-2:30pm
> Swimming:
   ~ Arrival/Check-In: 2:30pm
(All swimmers must arrive and check in prior to 3:00pm)
   ~ Warm-Ups: 3:00pm
   ~ Swimming Starts: 3:15pm
PLEASE NOTIFY US BY THURSDAY IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO ATTEND - We will be putting together a lineup and we want to avoid unnecessary scratches due to no-shows.
What are time trials? Time Trials is a "practice" meet where swimmers will be timed in all regular meet events (except relays and IMs). Every swim team member should come to Time Trials so that the coaches have a basis of where to place the swimmer in upcoming competition meets. We will run this meet like a normal meet so parents will be needed to help time (2-3 timers per lane are needed), judge the meeet, and organize the swimmers. Stop watches will be provided.
