Dear Parents- I want
to address communication that I have received regarding our program start for
2008. I want to first apologize for my choice of warmup yesterday. Many of the
8 and Unders there may have been there for their first practice and it was too
much for me to expect them to do 6 laps. My intent was not to intimidate or discourage
any of our young swimmers. The intent of my note is to ensure you that
we have not strayed from our mission, which is to grow the swimming culture of
Pennridge. I am concerned about a perception that we did not effectively set expectations
about what our program was all about. We have said from the beginning that if
your child can swim a lap without stopping, that they had a place on this team,
and they still do. It is my feeling that we have been very consistent in our expectations,
and if this is not how you are feeling, I am very approachable and would be happy
to speak with you in person, in private. With this said, we have many
challenges that face us this year. We are dealing with a new and different schedule
from the UBYMCA, we have many new kids and our diving program continues to grow.
I will be the first to admit that the first few days of practice have been hectic
and somewhat disorganized, so I appeal to your sense of trust that we will settle
into a schedule and routine that will better serve the needs of your children.
I expect to see changes to Friday Stroke and Turn practice, Saturday practices
and practice assignments during the week. My thoughts on these topics are to cut
the Stroke and Turn time in half to accommodate (2) groups, potentially flip the
older and younger kids on Saturday and come up with practice/lane assignments
for every swimmer. These decisions are not yet made so please stay tuned the the
website for any changes to our existing schedule. In the end, the PAC
Board is unanimous in its commitment to providing an exceptional experience for
EVERY swimmer. This experience will involve challenge and commitment, but most
of all, we want your child to enjoy their experience on the team. I believe that
there are still some of you that are unsure of your long term commitment to PAC.
I would encourage you to communicate with your child's coach or to anyone on the
Board about your concerns or the concerns of your child. We are all in this together
and we are united in our commitment to your family and the Pennridge community.
In closing, if you have concerns that are not being addressed, please speak
with me. I am typically at the pool almost every night, and can also be reached
via email and phone. Thank you for your understanding and please call with any
questions. Yours in Swimming- Matt Bashaar, President Pennridge
